home-t-home

Hello, just quickly swinging in to tell you about a very sweet little company I recently discovered through a friend. It is super new and therefore always nice to support a fledgling company! The lovely owner's name is Laura, and I really love the reason behind her setting up this venture....

"We are a small independent company designing and producing our own collections, always with a "less but better" approach. We are based in Barcelona, and produce our bedding products locally."

So you get to know her a little better I contacted her and asked if she wouldn't mind answering some questions about herself and her company.

WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE YOU BECAME A MOTHER?

I did loads of things! But last job was as home textile designer.

WHAT MADE YOU START UP YOUR SHOP 'HOME-T-HOME'?
I wanted to travel less and be more with my little baby, and at the same time I wanted to do things differently in terms of home textile production. So I quit my job and started developing home-t-home, with the idea of doing some sort of “illustrated t-shirt” kids bedding.
WHY IS SOURCING LOCALLY AND ETHICALLY SO IMPORTANT FOR YOU?
Massive production is old to me. I think that another type of production is possible. We have professionals close to us that can deliver good quality of work and we should support them.
HAS BECOMING A MOTHER CHANGED YOU DO YOU FEEL?
Indeed. I feel I have to be more fair to myself if I want to transmit good values to my kid. And I am learning to better manage work, tasks and “leisure” time!
WHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE A FIRST TIME MUM?
They grow up quickly, so enjoy the time you spend with them. And take into account that it is a transition period to which you have to adapt.
ASIDE FROM A DECENT NIGHT'S SLEEP WHAT CAN YOU NOT LIVE WITHOUT?!
Home and lifestyle magazines. Elle decoration UK, Marie Claire maison, Viewpoint Magazine...Anything with colour, materials, textures is a breakaway for me.
DO YOU HAVE ANY SECRETS OR TIPS TO MAKING MOTHERHOOD A TEENY BIT EASIER?
Indulge yourself from time to time: when time allows, get a manicure done. Someone taking care of you for half an hour!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WANTING TO START UP THEIR OWN BUSINESS
Just bear in mind that it will take more time than you think. That your project will probably evolve while you are setting it up. And that if you have the determintation, it is a good time to be entrepreneur, you have the tools at hand.
CURRENTLY YOU DO BEDDING AND SOME SLEEPWEAR, DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS TO FURTHER YOUR COLLECTION?
At this stage, I am more concerned in getting this first collection out in the market. But of course, I would like to add some basic pieces of clothing, well-thought and practical, and would love to do some kids books publishing under “home-t-home editions”.
ARE YOU LOOKING FOR NEW ILLUSTRATORS FOR YOUR FUTURE COLLECTIONS?
I wish! There are so many good illustrators (especially in the UK)! And bring illustration from all over the world into our little's bedrooms is my aim. Little by little, when home-t-home grows, I'll be able to incorporate new illustrators!

Of course I'm always keen on anyone supporting independent illustrators! She sent me the fantastic x-long t-shirt to try. It is made of such soft cotton jersey with a water based printed moustache on the front. Fun! It is great for Stan to lounge around in, and since it's been a bit chilly we've teamed it up with leggings for general mooching about the house, but I've got a feeling it is going to be our potty training outfit of choice as he can pull it up easily, which seems to be easier for him than pulling up and down leggings or trousers - Hoorah!

When Stanley is in need of a big bed at some point,  I'd like to fill it up with her beautifully illustrated duvet sets. This one in particular is super cute, and thank goodness unisex with no trucks or cars or baby blue in sight! Her site is great to navigate and has a option to view all the products in GBP which is handy. I think lots of her things would make perfect and different gifts. Go make a cup of tea and have a look now, it's called home-t-home and you can click here to visit.

  1. If only this came in larger sizes! Hugo was really wanting a 'nightshirt' when he heard that men used to wear them...
    I love it.

    1. I know it is ace isn't it. I'm sure her being a new company there are limited sizes....maybe she'll expand the sizes. It is a great idea, I've never come across a boy kiddo night shirt before!
