HONEST FOOD

i was talking to a friend the other day and she had been reading this blog post about her child eating only beige food at the minute. we had a laugh about it and said that we were both feeling like that at the moment. that our little ones were stuck in a food rut eating the same sort of things all the time. not really trying new things, or trying and then spitting straight back. we were relived to hear we weren't the only ones going through that non too picture perfect ideal of sitting down to eat a yummy family meal together. that sometimes feeding is a bit of a battle. i had a think about my food posts about stanley. and i thought about how nice they looked and how 'well set up' they were. so i'm taking a change of tack. i'm showing you roughly a week's worth of what he REALLY eats. a before and after if you like of what happens. a far more honest food approach i think. there are many good eating babies out there.....and many i see on blogs. mine is ok, but not perfect. and neither should my post be. so here goes.... good ol' honest food blog posts from now on!

please note: no food was harmed in the making of this post. i ate all leftovers. we do not do food waste here, although i do draw the line at wet regurgitated bread!

oh, and sorry about the quality - all aken on my iphone to stop me getting too precious about it all!

  1. Hah such a good idea! Theo sounds the same as Stanley, if you give him pasta/yoghurt/vegetable fingers (Do you get the tesco ones? They're yummy!) he'll eat pretty much the whole plate, but other things he's not so great at. Or one day he'll be great and try loads of new things and eat all of it, and other days where he won't touch a thing...

But from the looks of those pictures he seems to do pretty well! Don't think you have anything to worry about! And plus they all look so yummy, I'd eat the leftovers!

    1. it's funny in taking the pictures to put together this post i realised he's a better eater than i thought...which can only be a good thing!
yes those tesco veggie fingers are great. by far the best of their kind!
and it's funny how long he'll take some days to eat a plate of food - especially if it's the kind he has to feed himself - one of these meals too an hour and 15 minutes to eat! so painful!

  3. This is such a good idea & you've really got me thinking 'Phew! I am NOT alone'. You see so many blogs about toddlers eating it all up, all the time! We are in a turkey spag bol dinner rut here with Indi at the moment. if it isn't that, it's not going in, apart from yogurts and strawberries.
We should all compare before & after's for a week, that would be fun ;)

Also, where did u get your stainless steel lunchbox from? I've been looking for one for Indi, but don't really want a plastic one ideally.

  4. this is a lovely post (and I am rather envious of your dishes!)
I got a bit carried away with The River Cottage baby book and so far (apart from Sag Paneer) Wilf has eaten them all up (even Tom wouldnt eat the Sag Paneer so maybe it was just gross!). I know this could change on a weekly basis but its nice at the moment to feel happy about this. I feel a bit like as Wilf still only sleeps two hours in a row max and is up from 5am its one thing I can feel smug about ha! But I have always loved your food posts and this looks like such a good idea. I would have said Stanley was a good eater looking at these!
And I'm taking your's and Abi's tips on board about the veggie fingers! xx

  5. I love this idea. Looks like he eats pretty good, compared to my picky little guy at least! Sometimes entire meals of mine are refused and it will something he scarfed down just the week prior. So frustrating. Not sure what the answer is, but sometimes I end up making multiple meals. I have a feeling this is not "right" but hate to see him not eat at all... especially before bedtime. Anyway, I'll be checking back on what little Stanley is grubbing on!

  6. I think my comment got screwed up cuz I wasn't signed in or something. Ho hum. Anyway, looks like your little boy eats fairly well. I swear my son will reject entire meals and it will be a meal of something he scarfed down just the week prior. So frustrating. Anyway, I'll be checking back to see what Stanley is grubbing on :) Good luck!
